Making comics motivates me to narrate a world that tells a story with a code to be unlocked. With this, I can create characters with inspiration to my own stories- and make it puzzle pieces to a bigger picture.

I do a lot of naturesque work and this is a result of my environment and my love for Missouri state parks. A recurring theme in my artwork is using ordinary sentiments within the mundane daily life. Incorporating constant change within the passage of time, I like to turn these moments into a story. Whether it be sitting by the lake by my home in the evening hours or cooking a meal with a loved one, these instances create memories that I want to convey.

Bright unique colors, stylized line work and queer narrative are a core concept in my art. Living in a town that is unaccepting of the LGBTQ+ community means that I can represent myself in my art because it is repressed in my current day-to-day life.

The concept of transitional spaces (literal & metaphorical) occurs in my art, through color schemes, scenery, and imagery. These instances create a “liminal” lens in which I am actively observing and living through important life changes, and I want to convey the feelings of these transitions. Diving into a study for a character design, or making sure my line work shows the time I have put in, storyboarding is also an opportunity for me to engulf myself into illustration and printmaking. After work with screen printing, as well as block printing on apparel, I have come to the conclusion that combining the two to create a potential future animation is a priority of mine. I want to start creating things that show both subjects.

I plan to further immerse myself in making an illustrative graphic novel that I have been writing, that has been a project of mine for a year now. I hope to publish it outside online media in book form, and move further into illustration for books and comics. Illustration allows me to express the many changes that I experience and reflects it into a narrative that I piece together. It teaches me to delve into a new sense of patience and observation and I learned to love and work with these time-consuming learning processes.
